Maria Croker, owner
After graduating from Boston University in 1988 with a degree in finance, I worked in the financial industry servicing mutual funds until starting my own tax business in 1999. My love of doing taxes began nine years earlier, in 1990, when I took a local tax course and realized that preparing taxes was my real passion. However, before opening my doors, I got married and started a family. I knew that I wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom, but still needed to earn a living to help pay the bills.
So, in January 1998, right before the birth of my second son, I decided to take the leap and make my dream come true. I quit my “job” and started building my own tax preparation business. My husband and I built a new house and were able to add space for my Tax Office. It was a win win. I was able to stay home and raise my kids, while still earning an income doing what I love.
My business began with only a handful of customers, mostly family and friends, but quickly grew each year by word of mouth. My business also grew to include payroll clients, (which my son Kevin has been working primarily on), and eventually, my clients became more like friends than customers. I take pride in ensuring that each client receives my customized attention and review of their unique situation and tax or payroll needs.
Today, after 25 years in business, my small tax preparation operation services approximately 425 personal clients, and many small businesses which are mostly located in Brockton and the Greater Brockton area.
Kevin Croker
Kevin joined Croker Payroll & Tax after he graduated from the University of Rhode Island. Throughout high school he always helped me with tax preparation and now has a great understanding of tax law. When I needed help with the payroll clients, he immediately took over this part of the business as well as the bookkeeping services.
